Beam DPS

Last updated: Update 48 - 18th November 2025

A beam DPS build for every base class

SUBCLASSING

Base Class

You can use this build with any base class.

Always use these two

Arcanist - Herald of the Tome

Dragonknight - Ardent Flame

We will always use Arcanist's Herald of the Tome and Dragonknight's Ardent Flame. Herald of the Tome gives us access to the core ability of this build - Pragmatic Fatecarver. Ardent Flame contains 2 very strong active abilities (Flames of Oblivion and Venomous Claw), Molten Whip which can be backbarred for passive 300 Weapon and Spell Damage and Standard of Might which is the strongest Ultimate in the game

3rd skill line to choose from

Templar - Aedric Spear

Templar - Dawn's Wrath

Sorcerer - Storm Calling

Nightblade - Assassination

Warden - Animal Companions

Necromancer - Grave Lord

Choose one of these as your 3rd skill line. If your base class is Arcanist or Dragonknight you can choose any of them, otherwise you're locked to a single possible combination (except of Templar, which has 2 possible combinations)

Skill Line comparison

Comparison listing DPS each of the setups pulled on the parse dummy, as well as mentions of buffs that were irrelevant on the dummy but are useful in actual content.

Aedric Spear

152,120 DPS

Additional benefits: 12% Critical Damage from Piercing Spear, additional armor from Balanced Warrior, skill setup uses Camouflaged Hunter which means you don't have to rely on Healers for Minor Berserk

Storm Calling

150,549 DPS

Additional benefits: self sufficient Major Resolve from Hurricane, additional sustain from Capacitor, situational Critical Surge self-heal, skill setup uses Camouflaged Hunter which means you don't have to rely on Healers for Minor Berserk

Dawn's Wrath

149,807 DPS

Additional benefits: extremely strong execute thanks to Radiant Oppression, provides group with Minor Sorcery thanks to Illuminate

Additional drawbacks: lack of cleave in execute when switching to Radiant Oppression

Grave Lord

148,606 DPS

Additional benefits: strong execute thanks to Death Knell, huge penetration thanks to Dismember which makes you able to reach pen cap even with extremely bad tanks

Additional drawbacks: requires interacting with corpses which are extremely buggy

Assassination

148,546 DPS

Additional benefits: 10% Critical Damage from Hemorrhage, strong execute thanks to Killer’s Blade, provides group with Minor Savagery thanks to Hemorrhage, great sustain in trash (or any fight with adds) thanks to Executioner

Additional drawbacks: lack of cleave in execute when switching to Killer’s Blade

Animal Companions

143,554 DPS

Additional benefits: insane sustain thanks to Flourish and Bull Netch, additional Critical Damage thanks to Advanced Species (usually 10%, but Wild Guardian can be slotted on frontbar for a total of 15%), self-sufficient Major and Minor Breach from Deep Fissure which can provide a lot of penetration when playing with bad tanks, extremely good in trash packs thanks to being able to pre-cast Deep Fissure

The crafted setup parses 120k DPS

When using it, you should adjust your Skill Setup similar to the way the Skill Setup below has been adjusted. Remember, the order of replacing skills is Fulminating Rune -> Camouflaged Hunter -> Quick Cloak, so if you're using a setup which doesn't use either Fulminating Rune or Camouflaged Hunter (like for example the Dawn's Wrath setup), the Barbed Trap should replace Quick Cloak

CHAMPION POINTS

Warfare

Fitness

ADDITIONAL INFO:

  • Replace Fighting Finesse with Exploiter if your supports are providing enough Critical Damage for you to reach the 125% cap without Fighting Finesse
  • You can use Celerity in fights where you need more movement speed. Replace the Champion Point which is least useful for that fight, for example replace Bloody Renewal if a certain fight has no adds you could kill for Stamina

RACE

The difference between best and worst race is about 5% of DPS and there is no content in the entire game that you'd be blocked from completing because of choosing a bad race.

Best race for 12-man content - Dark Elf

Best race for 4-man content - Khajiit

Other decent options: Orc, High Elf, Wood Elf, Imperial, Redguard

MUNDUS

Use The Thief Mundus, which increases your Critical Chance

ATTRIBUTES

HEALTH

0

STAMINA

64

MAGICKA

0

You should always put all 64 attribute points into Stamina

FOOD

Your sustain can vary greatly because it's impacted by your race, the amount of synergies provided by your teammates, and by your chosen 3rd Skill Line. Choose the food with more Stamina Recovery if you can't sustain

With Max HP - for most content:

Without Max HP - for parsing or content where you know you can get away with it:

POTIONS

Most of the time you should use Tri-Stat potions (Restore Health, Restore Stamina, Restore Magicka). They'll greatly improve you sustain. You can craft them by combining Columbine, Bugloss and Mountain's Flower.

There are better potions but they're extremely expensive. Heroism potions (Heroism, Restore Stamina, Restore Magicka) can provide a 100% uptime on Minor Heroism buff which generates ultimate, but they're expensive because they're crafted by combining Dragon Rheum, Dragon's Blood and Columbine.

PARSE

Aedric Spear - 152.1k DPS
